About the Project
"Introducing Santa Rosa's Own Lowrider Patrol Car: The Marylou! California was home to some of the first lowriders ever created, and we're proud to become part of the "low and slow" community. The City of Santa Rosa’s Office of Community Engagement, the Sonoma County Lowrider Council, and the Santa Rosa Police Department are excited to announce the completion of the Marylou Lowrider Patrol Car. The Project is community-driven; the idea came from the Sonoma County Lowrider Council and the car build was completed various car clubs and solo riders from the Sonoma County lowrider community, including Latin Rollers Car Club Santa Rosa, Ranflitas Car Club North Bay; Viejitos Car Club North Bay, 1 Firme Car Club, Impalas North Bay Car Club, Good Times Car Club, and Paul Marquez, solo rider.
Other nearby communities have been encouraged by the conversations that have taken place around their lowrider patrol cars. Law enforcement officers and the communities they serve can connect in a new way as they talk hydraulics, artwork, and rims. Santa Rosa will be introducing The Marylou into our neighborhoods and communities with the hope that we can start to build new bridges here. Programming will include workshops and community events featuring lowriding as a form of healing from generational trauma, as well as a social cohesion strategy and a way to connect with our Indigenous roots.
We know this is just ONE part of the work that needs to be done to repair the relationship between police and our BIPOC community.

About the Project
Adele Davalos Mitchell was the founding teacher of the SOL Club at Lawrence Cook Junior High School in 1994.
One day she brought two old wooden chairs to her classroom. She asked two of her students (who didn’t get along) to work on a project together. She started by asking them to paint their culture on these two chairs during her art class and at lunch. Eventually, the two students found mutual respect and friendship working on this project together.
Soon the art room was filled with other students at lunch, watching the project of the “painted chairs” unfold. But, the fighting outside continued.
During one of these lunchtime gatherings, another student, came to my mom and suggested the idea of starting a club. A club that would honor culture, promote harmony and continue to create art.
He thought they should call it SOL : "Socially Organized Latinos" (also the Spanish word for sun).
SOL originated as a way of resolving gang violence and successfully ended the gang fighting on campus by students focusing on cultural pride and giving back to their community.
That’s how it began.
SOL Club became a flourishing, thriving community filled with cultural pride, art and celebration.
The dream of combining art and culture as a way of establishing harmony and violence prevention, had become reality.

About the Project
Nestled among towering redwoods, with faithful reproductions of Swiss chalet facades and panoramic scenes from the Swiss Alps, Snoopy's Home Ice feels like an alpine village in a redwood forest. It is truly a magical place.
The Redwood Empire Ice Arena is truly the most beautiful Ice Arena in the world. The Arena opened on April 28th, 1969 with a gala event starring the 1968 Olympic Gold Medallist Peggy Fleming and the Vince Guaraldi trio. The grand opening was the culmination of almost a year of construction.
A Santa Rosa icon for over 50 years, Snoopy's Home Ice offers a unique atmosphere for families to enjoy recreational ice skating and a world-class facility to support the goals of local athletes in the sports of ice hockey and figure skating. Home to the Warm Puppy Café and Snoopy's Gallery & Gift Shop, the arena complex is also a popular destination for Peanuts fans from across the globe.
Snoopy's Home Ice is located in the heart of Sonoma County's wine country, just one hour from San Francisco. There are many activities to include after your visit: hike along the beautiful Sonoma coast; stroll through a majestic redwood grove; visit world-class wineries. Santa Rosa offers many activities, whether you are here for a day or a week.
