CARMEN'S BIO

Carmen Mitchell grew up as a competitive figure skater and ballet dancer. She now works as a professional singer and actor in both New York and California. Her body of artistic work includes many leading roles in musicals, short films, commercials and professional ice skating shows.

Carmen recently appeared as a principal performer on a National Tour of Disney on Ice where she debuted the role of the “Live Host” and was also hired to do voice over work for Feld Entertainment.

Some of her favorite roles include: Louise in Gypsy, Christine Daae in Phantom of the Opera, Maria in West Side Story, Fantine in Les Misérables, Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, Juliet in Romeo & Juliet, Viola in Illyria, Aida in the musical Aida, and Brooke Windham in Legally Blonde The Musical.

 

During her competitive ice skating career, Carmen became a US Figure Skating double gold medalist and was the Artistic National champion. She also won several artistic awards including "Most Artistic Freeskate" at Showcase competitions in the Bay Area. She also danced as a soloist with the San Francisco Academy of Ballet and Santa Rosa Dance Theater.

Carmen attended a performing arts high school, then went on to study Performing Arts and Social Justice at the University of San Francisco and Santa Rosa Junior College. Carmen has also attended many workshops, masterclasses, and acting intensive programs at the City Academy in London, American Conservatory Theater (ACT) Studio, Berkeley Repertory Theater and Shakespeare and Company.

Carmen has a passion for social justice work. After college, she worked as a performance director for artists with special needs and developmental disabilities.

Carmen is the founder of the non-profit Redwood Theatre Company bringing original projects and social justice pieces to the community. RTC is a "Full Inclusion" program welcoming artists with Developmental Disabilities and other Special Needs.

 

Carmen is also the co-founder of the media productions company FTA Productions (For The Art). Working alongside artists and bold brands to create cutting edge media content. She is the director of the FTA Social Justice Art Series, creating social awareness and community connections through art.  

As Carmen pursues her professional performance career, she forever remains a student of the arts.

Carmen co-founded the Redwood Ice Theatre Company as a new branch of RTC. This ice theatre features professional figure skaters and world competitors in both live and virtual productions. 

Carmen co-founded the production company FTA Productions (For The Art). Working alongside bold brands & artists to create cutting edge media content. 

Carmen debuted the role of the Live Host on the National tour of Disney on Ice: "Dare to Dream" with Feld Entertainment.

Carmen had the privilege of working as an instructor for Alchemia performing  arts program for adults with developmental disabilities. Carmen now produces full inclusion productions featuring performing artists with all different types of abilities.

Carmen founded the non-profit Redwood Theatre Company. Featuring original projects and social justice pieces. Bringing Art to the community with professional productions, youth performance camps, outreach opportunities & full-inclusion programs. 

Carmen skating in several professional ice shows including: Disney On Ice, Great America Theme Park Ice Show & Snoopy Home Ice Christmas Shows.

Carmen studied Performing Arts and Social Justice at the University of San Francisco and Santa Rosa Junior College. Carmen has also attended many workshops, masterclasses, and acting intensive programs including: Meisner Technique and Film Acting at the City Academy in London, Advanced Acting at the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) Studio, Advanced Stage and Film Acting at the Berkeley Repertory Theater, and an Advanced Shakespeare Workshop with the Shakespeare and Company (lead by Dennis Krausnick).

Carmen began her training at Ballet California with Keith Martin. She then studied with Tamara Statkoun & Gina Ness at Santa Rosa Dance Theatre where she performed as a guest soloist. Carmen also trained and danced as a soloist with the San Francisco Academy of Ballet with Richard Gibson. 

Fun Fact: Carmen worked as a lifeguard and swim instructor during high school & college.
